OUR STORY

Once upon a time...

Ten years ago, a close friend introduced us over a simple lunch—not as a couple, but as strangers who quickly became friends, unaware that our friendship was quietly planting the seeds of something more. Five years later, what began as a casual introduction grew into a deep and meaningful connection—and before long, we became two people who couldn’t imagine life apart.

Throughout our journey, we’ve remained grounded in what matters most: our families, our faith, and our shared roots in the beautiful islands of Bermuda and Jamaica. We are especially grateful to our parents—Terry and Tanya Philpott, and Michael and Pauline Carney—whose love, guidance, and example have shaped who we are and the partnership we’ve built. Their support, both here and in spirit, has been a constant source of strength as we’ve grown together.

From exploring the world—across numerous states to beautiful countries—and navigating countless flights and adventures, our love has continued to evolve. What began as a friendship blossomed into a partnership built on fate, timing, and a deep connection that felt simply meant to be.

One unforgettable milestone in our story was the day Michael proposed to Taraya at the iconic Rockefeller Center. With Taraya saying “yes” and Michael beaming with joy, a new chapter began—one filled with hope, love, and the promise of forever. As we look back on those early days in the magical city of Atlanta, where it all started, we are filled with gratitude for every twist, turn, and blessing that has brought us here. Now, with hearts full of love and excitement, we can’t wait to continue writing our story together—as the future Mr. and Mrs. Carney.

A Special Tribute to Our Dads

Our journey wouldn’t be what it is without the love and strength of the men who raised us. Both of our fathers were proud, strong men—Taraya’s from Bermuda and Mike’s from Jamaica. They carried their roots with them in everything they did and passed on that strength, resilience, and love to us.

In the three years Taraya’s dad knew Mike, he came to respect and truly love him. One of the most meaningful moments of our story was when he gave Mike his blessing before the proposal. It meant everything to both of us.

Though neither of our fathers will be physically with us on our wedding day, we feel them deeply in our hearts. We’re so thankful for the impact they had on our lives, and we know they’ll be with us—in spirit, in legacy, and in every way that truly matters.
